January 17th. – Dinner Meeting – Banyan Night – PSC Manager/Chef Michael Crossley went out of his way at our January Meeting to provide an excellent meal, including serving of the Haggis . President John ensured that the Haggis would be presented in the correct manner and was duly piped in . The highlight of the evening was the presentation of some of Burns famous poetry. Most of us had to look twice to identify the person giving this oration and after keen examination, discovered that it was Bob Buchanan cleverly disguised!! Many dressed up in kilts and it was agreed by all that the Burns night was one of the best Banyan nights ever held.
Feb 21st – Dinner Meeting – Annual General Meeting in selecting Office Bearers for the following year , plus Exploits of wooden boat builder Rob Ayliffe.
March 21st. – Dinner Meeting – Our speaker was Member, Tim Readman , who stepped in at late notice to give an entertaining talk on his return to Georgia with some of the crew that rowed their replica galley the’ Argo’ from Greece to Georgia some forty years before . This was a reenactment of the voyage of Jason and the Argonauts from Greek Mythology. Tim showed many photos of the lavish receptions provided by the Georgians with much food, drink, singing and dancing. He also showed video of the original voyage.
April 18th. – Flinders Dinner Meeting – was well attended and where treated to a talk by Dr. Gillian Dooley from Flinders University. Gillian spoke on Flinders relationships with his ‘Friends,’ including, his wife Mary, Sir Joseph Banks, George Bass and Nicholas Baudin. Gillian talked in the round to the dinners in an entertaining manner.
May 16th – Dinner Meeting – We heard Daniel Miller speak on Welding Challenges of the Collins Class Submarines. Daniel holds the position of Principal Structural Engineer at ASC Pty Ltd. He spoke in great detail on the complexity of welding and weld testing, including explosion tests, for the Collins Class Submarines for the Royal Australian Navy. He also talked about the progress and challenges with the future Submarine Project. Dan holds the position of Principal Structural Engineer at ASC Pty Ltd, and is responsible for the integrity of engineering direction for in-service support and major dockings holding technical authority delegation in structural and materials domains on the Collins Class Submarines for the Royal Australian Navy.
June 15th. – Ladies Night – Our 50th year Anniversary was celebrated in style at our Ladies Night on 15th June, where 58 members, partners and guests enjoyed another great meal at the Public Schools Club. Bob Imeson provided a very interesting talk on the building of the replica of the schooner ‘Independence’ at American River, Kangaroo Island. This was the first boat ever built in South Australia by American whalers in 1803. He illustrated his talk with many photos of the progress in construction and talked about the funding of the project to date .
July 18th Dinner Meeting – Member, Capt. Peter Thomas talked on the travels and trials of Capt. Charles Sturt as he explored the Murray/Darling basin.
August 15th. – Dinner Meeting – Matt Rungie gave an interesting talk on marine paints and advances in technology to preserve surfaces exposed to the marine environment.
September 19th. – Dinner meeting – Tim Griffin talked on an adventure “In the steps of Shackleton’
October 17th. Dinner meeting – The highly anticipated talk by marine archeologist Dr. Tom Vosmer was on the vessel ‘The Jewel of Muscat’ an ancient ‘stitched’ vessel from the 11th. century.
